It's Boxing Day evening and I've eaten so many mince pies I fear i'll turn in to one. As i'm sat feeling content in my new fluffy dressing gown sipping on a cup of tea, i'm reflecting on what a year this has been. Well what can I say about 2016, apart from it being full of highs and lows. This year has truly shown me my own strength as a person and small business owner. I learnt you can work a full time job, survive on about 4 hours sleep, run a small creative business AND get all your Christmas orders out on time.
This year was a tough one for me personally, it saw me move back to my parents and move my business from a spacious studio to a small desk in my bedroom. Just before the busiest time of year. But thanks to you lovely customers, you kept me busy and focused. So a huge a thank you to every single one of you who bought something through this website, my Etsy shop or in person at a fair. Not forgetting how supportive my family and friends have been.
Any way enough about the lows. This year brought so many highs for my creative business that started as just a hobby after University. Etsy invited me to sell my products at the John Lewis's Rooftop Etsy Takeover, in their flagship store in London during the bank holiday weekend in August. The event span 5 days and I'd never done an event like it before. From this event I got to meet some other lovely sellers and had the most amazing bank holiday weekend. You can read up on my time at the event here.
I attended a Etsy Press Event in July which saw me meet many members of the press, from bloggers to magazines. This event led to one of my dishes being featured in Red Magazine's December issue. This was probably the most exciting thing to have happened to me this year! My products have never been featured in a magazine before and I was so proud to see it in their gift edit guide.
Having a look back at this year has made me realise how incredibly lucky I have been with the opportunities i've been given. As exciting this year has been for my business, i'm happy to leave 2016 behind and start afresh in 2017 with new ideas and new goals. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the holidays and that your getting to spend it with your nearest and dearest.
Lots of love, Laura xx
